2020 Cancellation Update

RACE UPDATE ANNOUNCEMENT:
The 2020 UCC Coffee Kona Marathon is CANCELLED!
It’s safe to say that over the past 26 years the Kona Marathon has had its share of challenges, dealing with location and course changes, volcanic eruptions, and tropical storms. However, it’s clear that over the past several weeks this hasn’t been anyone’s typical spring.

We appreciate the recent emails inquiring about the status of this year’s UCC COFFEE KONA MARATHON races. Initially we had hoped that the June race date would be unaffected by the COVID-19 crisis allowing all of you to travel and train safely leading up to the event. Most recently our state has extended its “Stay at Home” guidelines and tourism restrictions through the end of May. We have been watching the effects of COVID-19 globally, monitoring the travel restrictions to Hawaii, self-quarantine requirements, the economic impact, and county road use policies. Without clarity regarding what lies ahead for events greater than 10 people in Hawaii and abroad, we have come to a consensus.

Sadly, given the inability to run a mass start event in the present conditions, and travel restrictions like Hawaii’s mandatory 14-day quarantine for visitors, a decision was made to cancel the 2020 UCC COFFEE KONA MARATHON. All existing registrants will be deferred to the 2021 UCC COFFEE KONA MARATHON (tentative date is June 20, 2021)!

We understand that you are likely disappointed, like us. This was not an easy decision, but we are looking forward to shifting gears to creatively start planning for a fabulous 2021 event experience.
Take care of yourselves, physically and emotionally. We urge you to stay connected to our running community and keep moving.
Mahalo,
Kona Marathon Team
